Final magazine advert

After talking to my group about the advert, we all realised that something was missing!
So I decided to add a graffiti background in the white section of the gradient as i thought this section looked bare. To do this I added another layer for a background colour, then downloaded a graffiti rubber to make a more edgy and bassline look. Using the rubber i rubbed out only sections of the background mainly on the white although this moved over to the pink as well. I needed to find a way for it just to be on the white, I used a tool called the magic wand to select only the white section the when using the graffiti rubber to only rubbed out the white section. As the background is a grey when rubbing out it leaves a grey colour on top.
I then decided to change the half of the letter which was grey back to black so it would not clash with the grey graffiti background, this then allows the text to stand out more.
I have also added paw prints after the song title 'yeah yeah' this was so it linked more the the CD cover.
And finally at the bottom i have put a website address and the record company for the artist, this then makes it look more realistic, as if its a real organisation.

Completing the magazine advertisement

This is the final copy of the magazine advertisement. (Well i thought this was the final copy of the magazine advert, although i knew something was missing so did the rest of my group!)
I have now changed the text making the leopard print a lot brighter then the one before and the other part of the letter in a grey. The text is large and clear for the audience, with the necessary information. The 'Out Now' is not in a multi-coloured leopard print, it's in a red leopard print to make it stand out from the rest of the text. The positioning of the text is in order of what to read first starting from the top. The artists name, then the song title and finally to say you are able to buy it.
The background has now been changed to two different colours pink and white, and by using the gradient tool it gradually changes. I have used the colour pink as it's a similar colour to the male models top, but if the gradient tool was added in the wrong place on the advertisement it would clash with the t-shirt. Hence why the pink on the background is on the opposite side. I have used a pale pink so it does not take power over the writing.
The image is situated in the center of the page as it will most likely be the first thing the audience will look at. It consists of two people, both artists one male and one female. The pose for the female is almost imitating a model which would generally be found in a magazine, although the male pose does not follow the general conventions of a "model" pose. The male is posing more laid back and relaxed manor, the audience will be able to tell this from the facial expressions. The costume that the female artist is wearing relates to the text, this is because the leopard print from the dress has been used within the lettering.

Creating the magazine.

This is the next stage of our groups magazine advertisement. Although it still needs a lot of changes, for instance a background, this will be hard to choose as the writing is multicoloured. In order to choose the write colour background i think i will need to make all the lettering brighter to stand out on a pale background so even if there is colour on the background the text will still be visible and eye catching to the audience.

Start of making the magazine advertisement

This is the start of making the magazine advertisement. I started by choosing a image that is most suitable for the layout, so it really needed to be a long shot showing the whole of the models body, as you couldn't have mid-shot image in the middle, this would only be possible if it was a bigger image or positioned at the bottom of the advert. The magazine advertisement is being edited on photoshop, where i have had to use different skills and techniques to cut around the photo. I then copied and pasted the cut out photo onto another blank page on photoshop to add on the text. The text is being linked to the music video by using leopard print. The text is not yet complete, i created this technique by simply making a text box and wrote out the correct words. I then used the magic wand tool to delete the inside parts of letters where i would replace it with a leopard print pattern so it still looks like the original letter. Once using the magic wand tool you simply delete the area and the fill with a pattern in this case leopard print. To change the colours of the leopard print before you click of the filled leopard print pattern you click on enhance the colour then slowly change the saturation. Each time you move it, it will change to a totally different colour.

2nd mock up of magazine advertisement

This is another mock up of the magazine advertisement and even though its only the second one I've already change the layout. At the top of the mock up is now the name of the artist and the featured artist. The image is still in the same place which is in the center of the page, this will attract the audience to look more at the image. The middle left is now the title of the of the song 'Yeah Yeah...' we have now decided to have a single released rather then an album. And lastly at the bottom of the image is the words 'Out Now' to let the audience know the single has been released. As this is only a mock up I'm not sure whether to have 'out now' or to have a release date, i will have to discuss this with my group which one they would prefer.
Within the magazine advertisement i need to incorporate leopard print in a variety of colours.

Theses are all the photos that could be used for the magazine advertisement, they are all long shots so you can see the models whole body as it will look better on a A4 page in a magazine.

Ideas for the magazine advert

This is the image i like the most for using this kind of style as a magazine advert!
Even though it's extremely simple and doesn't use a lot of colours, i think it really stands out on the plain white background. The two colours red and black both compliment each other, but the red stands out more, which i would use for the most important text on the advert.
The background is actually the title of the album but in a kind of bold print to be more eye catching to the audience. 'Jadakiss' the artist is also all in black, the style of his clothes is the style we would like to show in our music video, magazine advertisement and the CD cover but perhaps in a brighter colour so a new genre is brought in Bassline/electro.

Ideas for the magazine advert

Even though this is an advertisement for an 'after shave' i think its a really good way of intriguing the audience. As you cant fully see the artist it makes them some what mysterious and the audience will want to know more about them and their style of music.
Although the image dominates the entire page, there is still enough room to add text about the release date of the new music track. The Lettering on the title is like letters all different sizes cut out of a newspaper which again has a mysterious feel as it's normally used for ransom notes, giving the artist an 'edgy' personality or style.

Ideas for the magazine advert

Even though this image is based around a CD cover, i think its a really good layout to use for a magazine advertisement as the style fits our music genre.
It has a vibrant pink stripy background which attracts the reader and in a way shows the artists personality. The image of the artist 'Amerie' is a close up shot of her standing sideways but then slightly turning her head to look at the camera, which involves the audience.

Research for magazine adverts

This is a advertisement that's trying to encourage people to buy a album of the artist Dizzee Rascal.
It's very eye catching as the contents of the layout isn't what you would normally find on any other advertisement.
They have used very large lettering with a really small image of the artist this really works as the audience will know who the artist is but they are focusing more on the information that the advertisement is giving them. The lettering is also in a bubble style of writing which makes it look more fun, the colours white red and pink also add to this. 'Tongue' is in the colour red which is the actual colour of a tongue, and 'Cheek' is in a pink colour which can be the colour of an actual cheek.
The background is a pale blue which makes everything else on the advert stand out.
The style of the advert is very comical to make it seem more fun and inviting to the audience. It's also not all a true image, its all been put together on a software, for instance maybe photoshop.
This is a very good advertisement as it gives the audience more information then having a bigger image. Although if we have a new artist it may be better to have a larger image then writing.

Research for magazine adverts

This is another image i have chose that would suit my groups style and genre for an advertisement.
The artist is Dizzee Rascal and is known for his wild and wacky music videos so i thought it would be a good idea to look at his style of photos to use that would look good in an advertisement.
The background on the image is a simple white colour which is a good idea for an advert as anything you put in front of it, its going to stand out. The artist is actually hold his name covering his face, there is no need to see his face as his name is famous enough for people to know who he is. Although i don't think this would ideal for our magazine advertisement as its meant to be a new artist so the audience wouldn't know who they actually are. Even though you can't see the artists face there is a photo of him on his t-shirt so you can tell who it is. I think this is a very good idea as the image is pointing at the audience interacting them with the advert. I think this a very good idea as the 'real artist could be doing more of a natural pose, whereas the image of the artist on the t-shirt will be eye-catching to the audience involving them.

Research for magazine adverts

This is an image i have found of a unknown music artist posing in a R'n'B way. I thought this image may be appropriate for a magazine advertisement as the background is very simple focusing all the attention on the artist.
The image is also very good as artist is looking straight at the camera, which is interacting with the audience making them more involved. There is also plenty of room on the image to add text of the album title and the dates.
The costume suits the genre as it's based around R'n'b and bassline and what you would normally find this genres typical video.
There are minimal colours used in the photo, colours which are of a natural tone, so whatever you want to put on the photo as well it will stand out.

Chosen option

From reading the briefs my group and I have decided to choose option one which is, "A promotion package for the release of an album. to include a music promo video, together with two of the following options" which we have chosen , a cover for it's release CD and a magazine advertisement for the release of the album. After planning out different genres of music we have decided to go with the genre, baseline/electro. We have split up the work load for the research task, i will be researching for a magazine advertisement by looking at different artists that have used ideas that we like and to also look at different camera angles to make the product look different. The other members of my group will be researching the video and and the CD cover for the music video.

Digital Technology skills audit

Throughout the years i have been studying media studies i have accumulated many skills in the following digital technologies.

For example when using desktop publishing i can:
- Create text boxes
- Change size of text box
- Insert text
- Change the size/colour of text
- Layer objects
- Change order of objects
- Rotate shapes

I can also use the software Photophop and by doing so i can:
- Add delete backgrounds
- Change opacity
- Layer images

However when it comes to using equipment such as a camcorders i lack a in depth knowledge in order to produce a high quality piece of media. I can use a tripod, load a tape, zoom in and out. But i am unable to apply different settings such as making it black and white. I am also untrained when editing video footage as i unable to cut footage, move footage, change time speed, add effects, remove sound, rewind movies and create them. I can however capture footage, this may be a basic skill but is essential when creating the piece of media.

Overall, i have many strengths when looking at digital technologies such as using desk top publishing and photoshop. However, i do require some assistance on other aspects such as using a video editing as this is not one of my areas of expertise.
